BSGAC DESSERT SERIES

AN EVENING WITH ALBERT EINSTEIN

SUNDAY JANUARY 22, 2011

DESSERT 6:30 PM, GUEST SPEAKER 7 PM

COST: $10.00

BSGAC MEMBERS ONLY

The year 2005 was widely celebrated as the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein’s incredible “Miracle Year” of 1905 when as a 26 year old obscure minor official in the Swiss Patent Office, he published several major scientific papers which revolutionized the way science looked at physics and the universe around us. This new year of 2012 marks the 57thanniversary of Einstein’s death.

It is therefore quite remarkable --and indeed we are very fortunate -- that this evening we have Dr. Einstein here with us at Burnt Store Marina, relatively speaking, as a part of our Lecture Series. This presentation was researched and written by Punta Gorda resident Ford Cooper based on the vast existing literature on Albert Einstein, including material directly taken from Professor Einstein’s speeches and writings.

Don’t miss what promises to be a very entertaining and informative evening.  Sign up now at the Administration office.

TRIP TO VIEW AN OUTDOOR TRAINING SESSION
OF THE WORLD FAMOUS LIPIZZAN STALLIONS

HORSES OF BATTLE, HORSES OF BALLET

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2011

COST:  $5.00 PER PERSON

Arrival time 9:30 am
Training Session begins at 10 am

We have an opportunity to visit the world famous Royal Lipizzan Stallions of Austria at their winter training grounds.  Founded in Europe in the 16th century, this is one of the rarest breed of horses in the world.  Only a few hundred have ever existed at one time.  During World War II these horses were saved from extinction by General George Patton, with the assistance of the Hermann family, who generations later still maintain a breeding and training ranch in Florida.  The BSGAC is planning a group trip on Saturday, December 10th to view one of these sessions. Your group leader for this outing will be Patti Orrigo, member of the BSGAC Activities Committee.

You must provide your own transportation for this outing.  If you would like to be a part of this unique opportunity, please sign up at the Administration Office by 5 PM on December 6th.  As a group we will have assigned bleacher type seating.  After the performance, a casual lunch may be purchased at the facility (hot dogs, brats, popcorn, lemonade, soda and coffee).

It is requested that we arrive by 9:30 am.  The training session begins at 10 am and lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes.  The drive from Burnt Store takes about one hour and 20 minutes.  Directions taking Interstate 75 North to exit 210 are on their website – www.hlipizzans.com or you may use mapquest for alternate routes.  Do not rely on your GPS as it led some people astray last year. The address is 32755 Singletary Rd., Myakka City, Florida, 34251.  The phone number is 941-322-1511.

Plan on joining your friends and neighbors for what is sure to be an exciting and entertaining outing

POKER RUN PLANNED FOR

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2011

VOLUNTEER DEALERS NEEDED

BSGAC MEMBERS ONLY

SO FAR WE HAVE 4 VOLUNTEERS TO BE HOSTS / DEALERS – WE STILL NEED 6 MORE!

Our BSGAC Poker Run is always hugely popular and enjoyed by all! We are planning our fall Poker Run for November 12th.  In order to organize this event we need 10 volunteers who are willing to open up their homes for a couple of hours from 3 – 5 PM to assist us with this event.  All volunteer hosts in the past have had a great time, and some have volunteered numerous times.  As most of the participants in this event collect their poker hands by traveling house – to – house on a golf cart, we would like to get volunteers from within the Marina to eliminate the hazards associated with golf carts darting back and forth across Vincent Ave and through the Lakes.  Dealers are asked to greet participants at their homes from 3 until 5 PM, shuffle cards, and allow each player to draw a card from the deck.  The dealer then notes the card which was drawn on the player’s scorecard.  Previous dealers have offered beer, wine and soft drinks to players as a way to meet and socialize with other residents.  Others have offered light snacks.  However, offering beverages and snacks is not a requirement for participation.  Those willing to act as dealers should contact Cliff Ritterpusch so that we can begin to organize this event.  If you would like to volunteer and help us out please contact Events Coordinator Cliff Ritterpusch.  Cliff can be reached by phone at 941-621-2709 or by email at: critterpusch@yahoo.com.

CLUB REFURBISHING BEGINS!

Excitement is in the air!  Our Clubhouse is approaching 10 years of operation and is in need of a facelift.  Thanks to past donations to the Flame Keepers Fund, we are able to begin the Clubhouse refurbishing on Thursday, August 18th.  With your help we can all take pride in a fresh new look that will bring warmth to our Club. The Clubhouse refurbishing will be funded entirely by donations to the Flame Keepers Fund and special fundraisers.

Please continue to support your Club during the refurbishing.  Linkside Café will continue to serve lunch and painting will be done after 2 PM. Carry-out is always available.  As work proceeds you may be rerouted to different entrances and bar hours may be changed.  The Patio will be closed for at least a week.  Water and ice will be supplied outside using the thermoses. Painting is estimated to be completed by Labor Day.  Please watch for and observe the signs each day. Your cooperation and support will be appreciated.

The following projects will be completed now with existing Flame Keepers funds.

·         New cushions for the white patio chairs are in place.

·         Removal of the wall paper and painting of the Linkside Cafe Dining Room and Bar will start Thursday, August 18th after lunch hours.

·         Painting of the Lobby and Restrooms will follow.

·         Painting of the Patio floor, walls, ceilings and aluminum work, including replacing the screening, will follow the interior painting.

·         New dark colored fans will be ordered, if enough funds remain, to replace the existing rusted fans.

Future Refurbishing will include replacing the carpet throughout the Clubhouse and other improvements. The Refurbishing Committee will obtain estimates and prepare a budget proposal for the fundraising goal.  The projects listed above will deplete the current funds in the Flame Keepers account and the fans may have to wait for additional funding. We will be raising money with a Reverse Auction on November 9th, a February Fun Fair and 50/50 drawings in addition to donations to the Flame Keepers Fund.   Donations may be made in any amount at any time.  Please help us through your cooperation, support and donations. The Flame Keepers form is available online.
