BSGAC FUNDRAISER FOR OUR TROOPS
BEGINS NOW THROUGH MEMORIAL DAY
“WISH FOR OUR HEROES FOUNDATION”
PLEASE READ THIS IN ITS ENTIRITY
For the past several year’s, the BSGAC has conducted a fundraiser culminating on Memorial Day to raise funds for various veterans causes. This year our goal is to raise money for a very worthy cause – the “Wish For Our Heroes Foundation”. We learned of this Foundation through member Janet Wood. Her friend’s son is US ARMY Staff Sergeant Bernie Teich, who was severely injured when a bomb exploded under his vehicle while on a mission in Baghdad, IRAQ, and is the National Spokesperson for this cause. Bernie received substantial injuries to both legs, and after 14 surgeries and much rehabilitation had to have his right leg amputated and replaced with a prosthetic leg. He is medically retired from the US Military. Bernie and his friend, Jeff Wells, a former Army Captain who also served in Iraq, dedicated themselves to helping their military brothers and sisters by forming the Wish For Our Heroes Foundation in 2009 and their mission continues. The goal of this Foundation is to grant wishes for active duty Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and their families.
We are honored to announce that Staff Sergeant Bernie Teich will be here at the BSGAC on Memorial Day to take part in our annual Memorial Day activities. As part of his recuperation from his injuries, with the help of the “Wounded Warrior” program, Bernie took up the game of golf. Bernie will be playing golf with us in our Annual Red, White and Blue Golf Scramble. The BSGAC is committed to raising funds for this worthy cause and present the donations to Bernie for the Foundation on Memorial Day. We are just beginning the planning process for this fundraiser. However, very soon many of you will begin to head North as the season winds down. So that you may participate, we are beginning our fundraising activities immediately and are accepting direct donations at the Administration Office. Donations are totally tax deductible. Those wishing to donate by check can make their check payable to “Wish For Our Heroes Inc.” There will be a special display board in the clubhouse lobby on which the names of those who have made a direct donation may be displayed. If wished, donations may be made in honor of any veteran, active or inactive, and the veterans name will also appear on the display board.
We will be announcing other fundraising efforts as Memorial Day draws closer. Watch for donation jars and 50/50 raffles in the near future.
Another way in which you can help immediately is by helping the foundation earn a grant from Pepsi. We received the following information and request from the Foundation yesterday:
Wish for Our Heroes is a foundation we launched to grant wishes for military soldiers. In the last 3 months, we have granted 20 wishes totaling $30,000. We have the opportunity to earn a $50,000 grant from Pepsi if we finish in the top 10 of voting by the end of March. Vote daily from each of your email addresses, and help us grant $50,000 worth of wishes for our heroes!!

HAPPY 2nd ANNIVERSARY BSGAC
Just two years ago we were asking for your support to save our Club by forming a members non-profit called BSGAC. The formula for financial success was 1,000 members and you rallied to the cause and achieved that goal. Let us never be complacent or forget that preservation depends on keeping to that formula. So as we celebrate two years of great times, please rededicate yourself to helping your Club rebuild our membership from the current 890 to 1000 or more strong to help guarantee our future. We also need the patronage of our year round members this summer in Linkside and on the course. Enjoy summer fun and socialization at your Club.
It takes a lot of hard work on a daily basis to make our Club a success. Be sure you show your appreciation to our staff and Board. They have all done an outstanding job and are to be commended. Put a smile on their faces!
THE FLAME KEEPERS
will replace the GREENSKEEPER CLUB
The Club’s Fundraising program is very important to providing Club enhancements and improvements while keeping membership dues reasonable. We wanted the Club’s fundraising program to reflect our Club logo and appeal to all our members. We hope that THE FLAME KEEPERS program will do just that. Donations of any amount can be contributed throughout the year(s) by members and non-members. Linda Hettinger has designed a streamlined display for our lobby that will list all donors according to their cumulative donations throughout the years. The categories will be: Up to $100, Up to $250, Up to $500, Up to $1,000, Above $1,000 and Annual Hole Sponsor at $1,000. All past donors will be listed on the new displays. This will include the donations made by the Bulls group to upgrade the Club’s computers and software. The Flame Keepers displays and materials will replace all the old Greenskeeper ones. The hole sponsors signs at the holes will remain the same.
The Annual Golf Hole Sponsorships are coming due for renewal on the Club’s Anniversary May 29th. Those who donate $1,000 may opt to have a hole named in their honor or in memory of someone for one year or they may opt to be listed only on the Flame Keepers displays in the $1000 category. The Beautification Project for the Tee Boxes is a separate project.
We encourage everyone to contribute ideas to The Flame Keepers Wish List of projects. Click here for the new The Flame Keepers donation form and the Wish List.

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE BSGAC BULLS
As
our BSGAC computer system has aged it has become obsolete to the point that
the day to day operations of the Club have been adversely affected. An
upgrade of the entire system has been desperately needed. We are sure that
everyone has noticed at one time or another the frustration that the staff
has experienced trying to serve the membership in the most efficient manner
possible. It seems that there was a hidden poltergeist in the Food and
Beverage system which delighted in making strange things happen. There was a
demon in the Golf Pro Shop Computer System who periodically sprang to life
to cause havoc. The Administration Office computer had a Broom Hilda
which caused lots of anxiety and head scratching as the staff struggled to
keep things running in a smooth manner. As everyone knows, nothing
gets past our Director Bob Nuckols. He quickly became aware of the
situation. Realizing that the needed upgrades would cost over $10,000
Bob sprang into action and appealed to his BSGAC Bulls Investment Group for
donations to upgrade our system. Within weeks the group had raised the
needed $10,000 plus additional funds. The entire staff of the BSGAC
would like to take this time to thank each and every member of the group who
donated to this worthy cause. Your efforts have allowed us to schedule
the needed upgrades. The end result will be a much more efficient operating
system and improved service to our membership and customers.
ENGRAVED BRICK PROGRAM
The Club continues to sell engraved bricks for around the flagpole.
The funds collected will be used for Club projects. We need 10 bricks
to place an order without paying an extra fee. We have two brick
orders waiting for us to get another 8 orders. If you have been
thinking about getting a brick, please place your order at the
Administration Office soon so we can get these bricks ordered.

ATTENTION! ATTENTION!
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE
BSGAC
DATE CHANGED TO VETERANS
After further consideration and discussion, it has been decided that instead
of conducting our BSGAC Flag Dedication Ceremony on Sunday, Nov 8 in conjunction
with out Veterans Day Breakfast Buffet, it would be much more appropriate to
change the date to Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th. This will allow
us to dedicate our flag to all Veterans of this great nation on the actual
National Holiday which honors those who have served our country.
Additionally, we believe that conducting this ceremony on Wednesday at 4 PM will prove to be much more convenient for all who would like to attend. We hope that you will join us for this very special occasion. Following the ceremony, everyone is invited to join us at the Linkside Café to celebrate the event! The kitchen will remain open until 7 pm serving our regular lunch menu and light fare. The bar will remain open until 8 pm offering Happy Hour Drink Prices until close. We hope to see you at 4 pm on November 11th, Veterans Day, when our flag will proudly fly over the Burnt Store Golf and Activity Club for the very first time.

POKER RUN PLANNED FOR
VOLUNTEER DEALERS NEEDED
BSGAC MEMBERS ONLY
Last year’s Poker Run was a resounding success and we are
planning another one next month on Saturday, October 24th. Before
we can begin to advertise this fun event and take reservations we need 4 more
households to volunteer to be “dealers”. This event requires
a minimum of 10 “dealers” and thus far we have 6 volunteers and are approaching
our goal! As most of the participants in this event collect their poker hands by
traveling house – to – house on a golf cart, we would like to get volunteers
from within the Marina to eliminate the hazards associated with golf carts
darting back and forth across Vincent Ave and through the Lakes.
Dealers are asked to greet participants at their homes from 3 until 5 PM,
shuffle cards, and allow each player to draw a card from the deck.
The dealer then notes the card which was drawn on the player’s scorecard.
Previous dealers have offered beer, wine and soft drinks to players as a
way to meet and socialize with other residents. Others have
offered light snacks. However, offering beverages and snacks
is not a requirement for participation. Those willing to act
as dealers for this fun event should contact Jay Lev as soon as possible so that
we can solidify our plans. If you would like to volunteer and
help us out we would greatly appreciate it. If interested,
please call Activity Committee Chairperson Jay Lev ASAP. Jay
can be reached by phone at 941-575-9981 or by email at:
customrods44@hotmail.com.

INTROduction TO TAI CHI
Starts 6PM
INSTRUCTOR: RUSS CLINE
COST: $10 per person

The BSGAC has received lots of requests to offer Tai Chi Classes. If you ask a group of people exactly what Tai Chi consists of you will receive lots of different answers. Therefore, the Activity Committee feels it would be useful to offer a presentation to familiarize potential Tai Chi students with all aspects of Tai Chi.
This presentation will explain to the students exactly what Tai Chi consists of, the history of Tai Chi, the health benefits of Tai Chi, and what is required and expected of the Tai Chi Student. Instructor Russ Cline, who teaches Tai Chi at the Lake Kennedy Center in Cape Coral, will also explain how he came to be involved with Tai Chi and what his teaching experience has been. He will also demonstrate some basic movements and have the class participate in a few of the basics.
At the conclusion of this class a decision will be made as to whether or not the interest and population base is present to begin offering Tai Chi Classes on an ongoing basis.
Those interested in attending should register at the Administration Office between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Mondays through Fridays.

Mark your calendars for Game Night on July 13th and plan on joining us at the Linkside Café for an evening of “Games Of Your Choice” at the Linkside Café! The kitchen will remain open until 5:30 pm serving our new summer lunch menu and the bar will remain open until 9 pm. We will be playing 5 and 10 cent poker with winnings paid in Burnt Store Bucks. Many of you have already seen our new Wii game and have created your characters, and we hope to start a Wii bowling league on our Big Screen! Perhaps “Bowling For Beers” may be a game that many will find appealing!
Weather permitting; we hope to also introduce Bocce Ball on Game Night! If none of these games appeal to you and you would like to bring a board game, or play mahjong, or bridge, or some other game just get your group together and come on over! If you aren’t into games, feel free to join us and sit back, relax and enjoy some great food and cold beverages. There is no admission charge. It would assist us greatly if you are planning to attend if you could pre-register, indicate whether or not you will be dining, and also indicate which games you would be interested in playing. This would give us an idea of how many people to expect and assist us in determining how much staff to schedule, If “Game Night” is successful we hope to repeat it often throughout our long, hot summer!
