MEMORIAL DAY FUNDRAISING ANNOUNCEMENTS

BSGAC FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES FOR MEMORIAL DAY 2011

ALL PROCEEDS TO “WISH FOR OUR HEROES FOUNDATION”

BSGAC sponsored a very successful fundraising event last year that benefited our nation’s brave military personnel through a charitable organization known as the “Wish For Our Heroes Foundation”.  Monies raised by this Foundation are used to assist members of our military and their families who are in dire financial or personal need.   Army Veteran, Staff Sergeant Bernie Teich who was severely injured in Iraq, represented the foundation and spent several days with us in the community, participating in our Memorial Day ceremonies and even playing in our Memorial Day Scramble.  The community raised over $9,300 which was presented to Bernie for the foundation.  Our funds were used to grant several wishes over the last year.   Bernie and the foundation were extremely grateful for everything we did to help them and for the hospitality that was shown to him while he was here.  With our help and many other events, the Foundation just celebrated granting its 500th wish since its beginning less than 2 years ago.

We are excited to announce that Bernie will again be here to spend Memorial Day with us this year to honor our nation’s fallen heroes and those still serving around the world.  Join us for our ceremony at 1:00 p.m.

We are once again conducting a fundraiser for the Wish For Our Heroes Foundation which will conclude on Memorial Day with many events here at the Burnt Store Golf and Activity Club which are all open to the Public.  Below are some ways that you can participate in this worthy fundraiser.  All applicable donations are tax deductible.

1.      Make a direct donation – Direct donations may be dropped off during normal business hours at the Administration Office.  Checks should be made out to “Wish for Our Heroes” Foundation.  You can also send donations to:   BSGAC Wish for our Heroes Fundraiser, 24315 Vincent Ave, Punta Gorda, FL  33955

2.      Purchase a flag in memory of or in honor of any military personnel or any loved one at the Administration Office.  These flags are now on display on a giant board in the lobby.  Flags may be purchased for any donation of $5.00 or more.  Help us build a Giant FLAG to honor those who have and continue to protect our Freedom.

3.      Drop cash donations directly into the donation boxes located throughout the clubhouse.

4.      Purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win outstanding items that will be awarded on Memorial Day at 2:30 p.m.

5.      Participate in the silent auction.  Bid for a chance to win Pro and College  Sports Memorabilia, a trip to St. Thomas and so much more which have been donated.  The auction will end at 2:30 PM sharp on Memorial Day at the Linkside Café.

6.      Become a special FRIEND by sponsoring a Hole for the Red, White and Blue Golf Tournament.  We only have 18 of these available.   Each hole may be sponsored for $100.00 or more.   These are available on a 1st come 1st serve basis.  A sign will be placed on the hole for the Tournament recognizing your contribution.  Hole sponsorships need to be paid for in the administration office during normal working hours.

Watch your email and keep an eye on the bulletin boards for further information and updates.  Please help us make this years’ fundraiser for our Military a huge success.  For further information please call 941-639-4151 and talk to Cliff or Joyce.

POKER RUN PLANNED

SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2011

VOLUNTEER DEALERS NEEDED

BSGAC MEMBERS ONLY

Our BSGAC Poker Run is always hugely popular and enjoyed by all! We are planning our spring Poker Run for April 16th.  In order to organize this event we need 10 volunteers who are willing to open up their homes for a couple of hours from 3 – 5 PM to assist us with this event.  All volunteer hosts in the past have had a great time, and some have volunteered numerous times.  As most of the participants in this event collect their poker hands by traveling house – to – house on a golf cart, we would like to get volunteers from within the Marina to eliminate the hazards associated with golf carts darting back and forth across Vincent Ave and through the Lakes.  Dealers are asked to greet participants at their homes from 3 until 5 PM, shuffle cards, and allow each player to draw a card from the deck.  The dealer then notes the card which was drawn on the player’s scorecard.  Previous dealers have offered beer, wine and soft drinks to players as a way to meet and socialize with other residents.  Others have offered light snacks.  However, offering beverages and snacks is not a requirement for participation.  Those willing to act as dealers should contact Cliff Ritterpusch so that we can begin to organize this event.  If you would like to volunteer and help us out we would greatly appreciate it.  If interested, please contact Events Coordinator Cliff Ritterpusch.  Cliff can be reached by phone at 941-621-2709 or by email at: critterpusch@yahoo.com.

About the Foundation:

Wish For Our Hero’s Foundation a non-profit foundation was founded in November, 2009 to grant wishes for active duty Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and their families.  The Foundation strives to relieve the burdens of family separation, re-integration for deployed soldiers, hardship circumstances, and other means of assistance not covered by existing military charities.

The purpose of the Foundation is very simple – reward our brave men and women who make so many sacrifices for our great nation each and every day.   Most American citizens know someone associated with the Armed Forces and/or the family of an American soldier.  Think of all the sacrifices they make, and think about what we could do to make their lives a little more enjoyable – what can we do to bring a smile to their faces, to give them a small break from the trials, tribulations and strains of their daily lives?

The Foundation just celebrated granting its 500th wish since its beginning less than 2 years ago.

Help your community make a difference in someone’s life.  Give Hope and Thanks by supporting our fundraiser.  Anyone interested in joining our team of volunteers can contact Debbie Burns at 941-637-8868.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2101

COST:  $5.00 PER PERSON

The “Lipizzan Stallions” have been delighting audiences for 40 years with their performances in packed arenas across the US, in Canada, Europe and Australia.  Over the years, over 23 million people have seen this internationally acclaimed spectacle! Their tour features 12 to 14 of the stallions – descendants of a line that can be traced back to Carthage more than 2,000 years ago.  They bring to their shows 400 years of European history, performing amazing leaps and maneuvers.

Unfortunately, they do not usually schedule a formal performance in Florida.  However, we have a unique opportunity to view an outdoor training session at their winter home in Myakka City, Florida!  The BSGAC is planning a group trip on Saturday, December 11th to view one of these sessions.  Your group leader for this outing will be Patti Orrigo, member of the BSGAC Activities Committee.

You must provide your own transportation for this outing.  If you would like to be a part of this unique opportunity, please sign up at the Administration Office by 5 PM on December 6th.  As a group we will have assigned parking and bleacher type seating.  After the performance, a casual lunch may be purchased at the facility (hot dogs, brats, popcorn, lemonade, soda and coffee).

It is requested that we arrive by 9:30 am.  The training session begins at 10 am and lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes.  The drive from Burnt Store takes about one hour and 15 minutes.  Directions taking Route I75 North to exit 210 are on their website – www.hlipizzans.com or you may use MapQuest or your GPS for alternate routes.  The address is 32755 Singletary Rd., Myakka City, Florida, 34251.  The phone number is 941-322-1511.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY GOLF CART PARADE
and BOAT DECORATING CONTEST

MONDAY, DECEMBER 6th, 2010   ---   5:30 PM

OPEN TO MEMBERS AND NON- MEMBERS!

The Holiday Season is fast approaching.  In keeping with Burnt Store tradition we excitedly look forward to this year’s Golf Cart Parade scheduled for Monday, Dec 6th.  If you haven’t yet done so, get those thinking caps on and those creative juices flowing.  In past years, the themes and ideas of the participants have provided the community with a sight to behold as our Holiday Cart Parade winds its way throughout the Community.  What better way is there to kick off the Holiday Season?  There is no need to register your golf cart in advance – just show up at the Golf Club.  This community event is open to the entire community – members and non-members alike.  Following the parade everyone is invited back to the Linkside Café for the announcement of awards by Dockmaster Peggy Wark and our Club Manager Diane Mattas.  Join us for an evening of Holiday merriment!  The bar will be open and our regular lunch and light fare menus will be available.

Many in the community line the roadways every year and enjoy watching the parade. This year the carts will leave at dusk and will follow the following route.  From the Clubhouse the carts will proceed down Osprey #1 cart path, turn right on Big Pine Lane, turn left on Big Pass Lane, and then turn right on Islamorada.   From there they will proceed to  Cape Cole Blvd, turn left to Matecumbe Key Road, and then turn right on Matecumbe Key Rd.  The parade will then drive to the end of Matecumbe Key Rd and turn around at the guard gate.  The carts will travel back up Matecumbe Key Rd to the Marina and turn right into the parking lot at the Dockmaster’s Office.  They will then continue to the gas dock and turn right, continuing past the Keel Club and then turn right to Matecumbe Key Rd.  The parade will turn left on Matecumbe Key Rd to Cape Cole Blvd, then turn right on Cape Cole Blvd and continue back to the clubhouse.  We hope to see lots of our friends along the route!

POKER RUN PLANNED FOR

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7th

SEVEN MORE VOLUNTEER DEALERS NEEDED

BSGAC MEMBERS ONLY

The Activity Committee is again planning to offer a Poker Run to the Community on Sunday, November 7th.  Our Poker Runs are always a fantastic success and are enjoyed by everyone who participates. We are looking for a minimum of 10 Marina residents to volunteer to be dealers from 3-5 pm.  (We say Marina residents because we would like to stay away from a situation where we have lots of golf carts darting back and forth across Vincent and through the Lakes).  So far we have three volunteers and we need seven more to put on this event.  Dealers are asked to greet participants at their homes, shuffle a deck of cards, and allow each player to draw a card from the deck.  The dealer then notes the card which was drawn on the player’s scorecard and places the card back in the deck.  Previous dealers have offered beer, wine and soft drinks to players as a way to meet and socialize with other residents.  Others have offered light snacks.  However, offering beverages and snacks is not a requirement for participation.  Everyone who has volunteered to be a dealer for past Poker Runs thoroughly enjoyed this activity.  Volunteer dealers will be given an orientation prior to the event and will be given reserved seating at the dinner!  Those willing to act as dealers for this fun event should contact Cliff Ritterpusch as soon as possible!  Cliff can be reached by phone at 941-621-2709 or by email at: critterpusch@yahoo.com.

2.      Those participating will be required to provide their own tables.

3.      Those setting up tables may begin to set up at 7am.  Upon arrival, you must check in and show your ID card to a staff member who will direct you where to set up.

This training will include adult, infant and child CPR as well as techniques for relieving an airway obstruction (choking).  Also included in this class will be instruction in the use of the automated external defibrillator.   We feel that it is extremely important that we all are up to date with this important training.  Knowledge of the life saving techniques of rapid CPR and defibrillation are critical in the unfortunate event of an emergency.

This class is a one-evening class which takes about 3½ hours.  Upon completion of this class students will be certified by the American Heart Association for a 2-year period.
