An exciting afternoon of horseracing returns to Burnt Store Downs on Saturday, May 1
st. There will be a six-lane racetrack laid out and six horses will compete in each race. Horse movement down the track will be determined by the roll of 3 Giant Dice. Winners will be determined by rolls of the dice. Wagers will be accepted on each race with the entire proceeds from each race being split amongst those who have selected the winning horse. All prizes will be awarded in Burnt Store Bucks which may be redeemed at the Linkside Café or at the Golf Shop. There are some great horses returning from last year as well as some new horses to watch. Returning from the Maryland racing circuit are Mr. Wrinkles, Monkey Baby and Speaking Swahili. Mr Wrinkles is rumored to be on drugs so watch him closely. Competing for the first time is Bite Me - a very cantankerous, schizoid but speedy filly from Pennsylvania who has wracked up a bunch of wins at Penn National. Whistlehead, always unpredictable, has a shot if he can get out of the gate. Danny Boy, a crowd favorite, will be shipping in from Ireland again. Hemingway is an older but experienced gelding who has been injured but is now ready to run his final race on Lasix before being sent to the glue factory. Other entries to watch are Slim Jim, and Lady Is A Champ. Several long shots to watch are Join The Club, Hacker Helen and Giddyup Guido. All BSGAC Members are invited to participate in what promises to be a fun afternoon. Of course there will be an outside bar available to keep everyone hydrated during the races. It is not necessary to play in the golf tournament or attend the Kentucky Derby Party in the evening in order to enjoy our second Burnt Store Day At The Races! Hope to see everyone there!
Note: Check the Bulletin Boards at the Clubhouse for the program containing all of the names of the 36 horses running. Each horse has been named after a person associated with the BSGAC. Can you guess who they are? All persons who have a horse named after them will be asked to advance their own horses during the race if they are present.
A very special thank you to Vince and Joanne Donnelly who crafted and painted the horses that will be used for the races. They are currently on display around the Clubhouse!
